Michigan Chapters

The first Michigan Chapter of Wild Ones began in Ann Arbor in July 1996. Landscape architects, parks personnel, university students, and community members gathered at the home of Bob Grese, a faculty member at the University of Michigan School of Natural Resources and Environment. That first meeting was held outdoors, in the driveway of Bob’s house on the Old West Side—a typical urban environment. People sat in lawn chairs or on the ground, admiring the lush, diverse prairie that Bob had established in the small plot of land in front of his house. It was clear, by example, that natural landscaping with native plants was a beautiful alternative to the standard landscaping with turf grass and exotics.

In the few years since that first meeting, interest in natural landscaping and membership in Wild Ones has grown tremendously. There are now Wild Ones chapters throughout Michigan. Find the one closest to you, and sign up!
