Our Vision: This chapter encompasses the Louisville Metro area and Southern Indiana. We host spring speakers, an early summer "Show Me, Help Me Day," and summer tours of native plant gardens, fall board elections and seed/plant exchange at an indoor potluck dinner, and winter speakers. Meetings focus on what can be done to naturalize our residential properties. The fourth Saturday of each month is the Chapter adopted Wildflower Woods Work Session (weather permitting) Location: Wildflower Woods is in Cherokee Park between Cherokee Parkway, Barney Avenue and the Scenic Loop.Wild Ones Louisville Chapter

Wild Ones in Louisville? Yes! Our local chapter was formed March 1998 and we already have over 100 people on our mailing list. It shows the phenomenal interest for native plants and landscape restoration in our area.
Wild Ones was formed in 1979 as a direct outgrowth of a natural landscaping workshop taught by Lorrie Otto and offered by the Schlitz Audubon Center of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. A nucleus of nine people became intensely interested in this new concept as an alternative to the great American lawn. They united, dedicated to the idea that it is far better to use plants adapted to their own soils and climate than to struggle trying to maintain exotic plantings.
Become a member of Wild Ones and learn how to grow your own natural yard full of native American plant species that provide habitat for a multitude of wildlife. The local chapter provides a venue for educating members and sharing information about native plant species, restoration techniques, plant rescues and exchanges, seed gatherings, as well as tours and slide programs. See the membership page for details.
Meetings are held quarterly. See the latest issue of the newsletter for current information.

Deadline to make your tribute to Lorrie Otto. Your chapter board is proposing that we send a donation to the Lorrie Otto Seeds for Education (SFE) program administered by Wild Ones National office. We would plan to send the donation on her birthday (September 9th) and the amount would be $1/per chapter member taken from the portion of membership dues that come back to our chapter. So another way to both honor Lorrie Otto AND help your local chapter grow is by bringing in new members. When we hosted the national annual conference meeting back in 2001, Lorrie came to KY to participate and inspire us. I hope you will consider becoming a member of our chapter soon this summer so we can count you in our donation to SFE in September.
