Our Vision: This chapter encompasses the Louisville Metro area and Southern Indiana. We host spring speakers, an early summer "Show Me, Help Me Day," and summer tours of native plant gardens, fall board elections and seed/plant exchange at an indoor potluck dinner, and winter speakers. Meetings focus on what can be done to naturalize our residential properties. The fourth Saturday of each month is the Chapter adopted Wildflower Woods Work Session (weather permitting) Location: Wildflower Woods is in Cherokee Park between Cherokee Parkway, Barney Avenue and the Scenic Loop.

Wild Ones in Louisville? Yes! Our local chapter was formed March 1998 and we already have over 100 people on our mailing list. It shows the phenomenal interest for native plants and landscape restoration in our area.
Wild Ones was formed in 1979 as a direct outgrowth of a natural landscaping workshop taught by Lorrie Otto and offered by the Schlitz Audubon Center of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. A nucleus of nine people became intensely interested in this new concept as an alternative to the great American lawn. They united, dedicated to the idea that it is far better to use plants adapted to their own soils and climate than to struggle trying to maintain exotic plantings.
Become a member of Wild Ones and learn how to grow your own natural yard full of native American plant species that provide habitat for a multitude of wildlife. The local chapter provides a venue for educating members and sharing information about native plant species, restoration techniques, plant rescues and exchanges, seed gatherings, as well as tours and slide programs. See the membership page for details.
Meetings are held quarterly. See the latest issue of the newsletter for current information.

We could use a few more people to help out with a Wild Ones information table at the JCMGA “Gardenaganza” event to be held on April 17th from 1 to 5 p.m. at Whitehall. The more volunteers we have the more time our volunteers have to enjoy other aspects of the event –which looks to be great fun and our volunteers will receive an invasive species flash card set as gift.
We need to let JCMGA know a.s.a.p. if we will set up a table; so if you can help with this event, please RSVP email or call Portia by next Monday, Mar 14th. If there are specific times you can help out please include that as well.

Do you have a mystery plant that you’d like to identify or some phenomena that puzzles you? Send us a picture or a story to share? Perhaps another member can shed some light on your inquiry. Perhaps you can teach us something as well or know someone who could do a good program for us. Perhaps you attended a good lecture or workshop- we’d love to have you write up your notes and we will put them in our newsletter or post on our Facebook page.

April 19th (Tuesday), 6:30 p.m. (NOTE this is replaces the April 26th event) “Give Back to Phyllis” event! Louisville Metro Wild Ones will meet to help with garden chores at Phyllis. For many years Phyllis has hosted “Show Me Tell Me” yard tours and donated many plants to all our yards. This year she could use some garden help so that’s what we’ll do. Bring your garden gloves and some hand tools. You may still want to bring some bags (and trowel) to transport a few gift plants. This is also a fine time to bring plants to share; please try to label what you bring. Totally optional but feel free to stop by your favorite deli and bring a little food to share for a light supper or light snacks. " Special Note- I have two small trees that need a new home; if you can use them let me know so I can dig and bring on Tuesday to Phyllis’s (I don’t want to dig them until we have a new home for them): a Ginkgo (not native but not invasive) and a Walnut – wonderful native hardwood tree
