Jelke Creek Bird Sanctuary with Sue Harney


Saturday July 17, 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.- Learn about the creation of a storm water retention wetland mitigation area that includes trails for recreational walking, bicycling and horseback riding. Other areas of this new bird sanctuary include stocked fishing ponds. Our tour is in conjunction with the Jelke Creek grand opening this weekend.


June Kiebler is also leading a birdwatching walk at 7 am. Join the “earlybirds” before our tour. Bring your water bottle, sunscreen, bug spray and binoculars.
Jelkes Creek parking lot is located on the north side of Boncosky Road in Sleepy Hollow, one mile west of Route 31.

Remnant Prairies with Jon Duerr - Thurs. Aug. 26, 6:30 pm


Tour Murray Prairie and Horlock Hill just west of St. Charles. We will be able to compare an original prairie remnant with a planted prairie.


Driving directons to LeRoy Oakes: Go south on Randall Road until you come to the north edge of St. Charles. Turn right at the stoplight with Dean Street. (before the railroad crossing) Follow Dean Street .4 mile to LeRoy Oakes. Park in the south (left) side parking lot. The sign says Great Western Trail. If you are interested in carpooling from Christ the Lord at 6:15 pm, contact Shirley.
