Habitat destruction is the leading cause of species decline in our own corner of Pennsylvania. As our land is used for human purposes, there is less undeveloped land to sustain birds, butterflies, frogs, insects and other wildlife. We can change how we landscape our developed land, our individual properties, to provide a sanctuary for wildlife, as well as for our human families. Course topics include:
• How to restore and create wildlife habitat on your property by providing food, water, shelter and places to raise young.
• The importance of native plants to our local ecosystem, plant selection and sources
• Landscape design and sustainable gardening practices for the earth, people and wildlife
• The process of National Wildlife Federation & Audubon Wildlife Habitat Certification
• Additional resources and information tailored to each homeowners’ landscape

A discussion of common problems related to the design and maintenance of stormwater management practices, including swales and dry and wet basins, will be provided. The presentation will provide examples of stormwater management techniques that successfully integrated natural design elements and native plants to control stormwater, and will reference requirements of Pennsylvania’s new stormwater regulations as well as principles championed by renowned author Professor Doug Tallamy. The program will assist homeowners and associations who desire to improve the functioning and appearance of their wet or dry basins, swales, slopes, and low lying areas, as well as municipalities and institutions desiring to meet water quality standards by redesigning these areas.
The program is free and open to the public, but space is limited, so reservations are recommended. Contact CRC at crc@nni.com or 610-892-8731. For more information see www.crcwatersheds.org
